Iron regulation modules in the context of Fe resource allocation, seed sink strength and evolution in Arabidopsis thaliana

Iron is an essential micronutrient for living organisms. However, excess iron is also toxic to plants. Hence maintaining iron level is important for growth and physiology. The process of iron uptake and allocation is precisely regulated by different regulatory factors at various levels. But, the mechanism behind such complex regulatory mechanism is not fully understood. In this project we will study at the mechanistic level how Fe resource allocation is triggered by the transcription factor cascade and sink strength and the evolution of the Fe regulation modules in seed plants.
